No More Heroes (Wii)

After defeating the girl yesterday, I was ranked 8th in the game. I didn’t get as far as fighting for Rank 7 today, however, as I stupidly spent all my money on a new beam katana, some training, and a video. Which meant I had to do a load of side missions and jobs to make enough money. And litter picking is tedious.

No More Heroes (Wii)

With Zack and Wiki completed, it was on to the other Wii game I bought recently. Or one of them, at least. Today, I completed a few jobs (mainly lawnmowing) to make some more money, giving me enough cash to pay for the next fight. Which was set in a school. After beating up a load of thugs, I had to defeat a schoolgirl with a samurai sword. I’m sort of enjoying the game, but I’m not really sure if …

No More Heroes (Wii)

I bought two new games today. I haven’t bought any in ages, and finally got round to paying in some cheques for my birthday this morning. And they were on offer in Gamestation. So I thought, why not? So I bought No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki, both for the Wii. I’ve only played the former today, but so far, it has been excellent. I’ve done the training, killed the assassins ranked at 10 and 9, explored the town …

Lego Marvel Super Heroes (Wii U): COMPLETED!

I think this may actually be the first Lego game I’ve completed entirely in co-op. Lego Batman 2 and 3 were both mostly co-op, but Lego Marvel Super Heroes I’ve played only in co-op with my daughter. Which is nice. There’s a lot of mopping up bricks to do, as usual. We’ve done some, after finishing the story, but we’re still only at around 52/250. Finding the rest is going to be a pain, as although most of them are …

Heroes of Ruin (3DS): COMPLETED!

What seems like a very long time ago now, there was a sale on at some place I don’t even recall where three 3DS games were a tenner. Or something. One of those games was Heroes of Ruin, and since it was the first time I’d seen it alone for under ten quid, let alone with two other games for the same price, I leapt on it (along with Tetris and Steel Diver). Then they all went on my backlog …

3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3)

Well looky this. Another PS3 game. My PS3 must think it’s Christmas or something. Little does it know I’m euthenising it come Boxing Day. Ho ho ho! Not really. If you’ve ever seen anything about 3D Dot Game Heroes, you’ll have noticed it bears more than a passing resemblance to Zelda. Albeit in fancy 3D block pixel form, anyway. Surely it doesn’t play like Zelda though? That would be a bit brazen. Oh. It plays like Zelda too, and not …

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS)

Saved all my family today – my sister first (after three tank battles in the Backwoods), and then my parents. The puns don’t stop in this game, you know. Like one of the tanks I fought today: it was called “Fort Knight”, and had the tagline “Not too weak”. GONG! It seems I can now do recipies too, having saved Krak Pot from the volcano. This means I can make use of my hoarding by mixing items to make more …

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS)

Am I keeping track of the number of slimes I’d saved? I can’t remember. Anyway, I’ve saved 35 after today’s play, which is (I would predict based on the number of “spaces” to fill) 35% complete! Hurrah! Really into this now. I went back to Forewood Forest and have some more tank battles and saved some slimes, then progressed to the volcano level and did the same. One of the tanks I fought made me laugh, as it was called …

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS)

Ahaha! It’s clicked! I see the point of the game now: it isn’t just about exploring places and smacking baddies and collecting stuff – you get a huge hulking great tank and have giant tank battles! Amazing scenes! And I had my first tank battle today, as well as rescuing some more slimes for my town. Really getting into this now. Hurrah!

The art of ignoring video games

If you know me, or if you read this blog, or monitor my Usenet and forum posts, then you’ll know I buy a lot of games. Like, loads. I play a lot too: most days I put in an hour or so, longer at the weekend. This may appear to be a very long time to non-gamers, but you have to consider how much time I don’t spend watching TV, which is far more passive and couch potatoey. One look …

Gunstar Super Heroes

Played through a bit more as Red. I’ve done Moons 1, 3 and 4 now, without any real problems, but Seven Force on Moon 2 is giving me grief. I don’t remember it being all that difficult as Blue, but I can’t defeat him. Mind you, my save point does only have 40 health when I begin. I might go back a level and try to get a higher amount.

Sonic Heroes: OVERANDOUTED!

Somehow, over the course of today’s play, I bumped into another bug. I lost all my rings, and then picked one up. I then had 999 rings. How bizarre. Killed all of the million baddies Eggman sent at me in wave after boring wave, and then started on the last few levels of the game. Once more, just like almost every other Sonic game, they’re set on Eggman’s flying fleet of ships. And, like Sonic Adventure 2, there are far …

Sonic Heroes

Still the irritation factor rises. Athough I’ve now killed Egg Albatross (who was very easy, it turned out), the following two jungle levels were full of irritating unavoidable deaths and stupid can’t-see-where-you’re-jumping sections. The whole alligator chase bit was spectacularly joypad-smash inducing, as not only can you not see where you’re going, but you can’t time your rope-swing jumps properly as you don’t have the seconds required going spare. Oh yes – and more falling though platforms and sliding off …

Sonic Heroes

I don’t know why I’m playing this. It’s rubbish. In fact, it is so rubbish, that I could class it as one of the worst games ever made. Ever. There is so much wrong with it I daren’t even start listing them for fear of never stopping. I’d finished a couple of levels as Team Sonic previously, so I carried on from there. Oh joy – a pinball level. Oh joy more – rails to grind. Oh joy the most …
